What size TV do I need?
Based on THX (36 deg) and SMPTE (30 deg) viewing angle standards for optimal comfort and immersion.
The viewing angle standard
TV size recommendations are based on horizontal viewing angle - how much of your field of vision the screen fills.
- THX standard (36 degrees): Cinema-quality immersion. Recommended for movies and gaming where presence matters.
- SMPTE standard (30 degrees): Comfortable daily viewing. Good for news, TV shows, and mixed use.
- 4K vs 1080p: 4K allows closer viewing because higher pixel density keeps the image sharp at shorter distances. You can choose a larger TV in the same room with 4K.
